Implementation of the "green economy" in Tajikistan

Implementation of the "green economy" in Tajikistan

As it’s mentioned by the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E Emomali Rahmon in one of his speeches:
“… We need to keep within eyeshot  the climate change and the increasing vulnerability of our countries to water-related natural disasters. Along with this, the effective usage of our hydropower resources and renewable energy sources can be a powerful factor in the development of an environmentally friendly "green" economy, industrial development, a guarantee of energy security and sustainable economic development for all Central Asian countries ".
On May 15 of this year, a regular club meeting of the "Economic Expert" was held at the Tajik State University of Finance and Economics. The subject of the topic was "Green Economy" and its implementation in the Republic of Tajikistan based on strategic documents ". The club work was opened by the rector of the university Shukrullo Khairzoda, who mentioned that the transition to a "green economy" can contribute to the survival and further prosperity of mankind, since a "green" economy is a system of economic activities related to the production, distribution, exchange and consumption of goods and services that lead to an increase in human well-being in the long term; future generations are not exposed to significant environmental risks or ecological scarcity.

As the speaker noted: "Green economy" is a new form of economic development, that is based on technologies for the processing of environmentally friendly products, it is aimed improving the well-being of the population and ensures the ecological safety of the environment. A large amount of industrial waste is generated in the production process in a traditional economy. ”
A. Solehzoda stressed that the “green economy” model was developed in order to minimize the occurrence of environmental hazards and the impact of economic activities on the environment. The UN considers in its programs "green economy" and "green growth" as economic activities that reduce risks to the environment and prevent the impoverishment of nature.
In this regard, we can cite as an example the usage of alternative environmentally friendly, renewable energy sources (hydropower, solar energy, wind energy), transport using electric energy as a driving force, biofuel, etc.
It should be noted that in recent years the idea of a "green economy" has become the discussion subject not only by experts in environmental economics, but it is also being considered at various political forums, in particular meetings of states heads.
The speaker noted that our republic has begun to generate energy from renewable sources with the aim of introducing the principles of a "green" economy. Considerable investments are attracted in this direction. Today Tajikistan ranks sixth in the world in terms of production and consumption of clean energy. In the country at this stage, about 98% of electricity is generated by hydroelectric power plants. The usage of alternative environmentally friendly, renewable energy sources will ensure sustainable socio-economic development of the country and contribute to the formation of a new trend - the "green economy", - the speaker summed up his speech.
Associate professors B. Safarov and S. Madiev who spoke in the debate expressed their opinion on the implementation of the principles of "green economy" in the country.
