Protection of glaciers is a factor of sustainable economic development

On April 1 of this year, there was held a republican scientific-practical conference under this title, dedicated to the announcement of 2025 - the World Year of Glacier Protection at TSUFE.
First, the Vice-rector for Science and Innovation Bahrom Safarov made speech and said that this conference was held within the framework of the plan of scientific and research activities, and the topic of water and climate as an important issue at the world level was discussed in various ways.
- As we know from the mass media, on March 22-24, 2023, the United Nations Conference on the Comprehensive Review of the Mid-Term Goals of the International Decade of Action "Water for Sustainable Development", 2018-2028, was held in New York. The Founder of Peace and National Unity, the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon led this high-level event of the United Nations, which is considered one of the new pages in the life of the republic, added B. Safarov.
In addition, the Director of the Center for Innovative Development of Science and New Technologies of NAST, candidate of technical sciences, Associate Professor Anvar Kodyrov gave a comprehensive report on the topic "The impact of climate change on the safety of water resources".
In his speech, he noted that today mankind is faced with a serious problem - lack of water or uneven distribution of this natural gift. It is a matter of pleasure and honor that, through the efforts of the Leader of the Nation, on December 14 this year, the United Nations General Assembly declared 2025 the "International Year for the Protection of Glaciers", and March 21, which was proposed by Tajikistan as the "World Glacier Day", was unanimously adopted.
Indeed, the adoption of this resolution is an important and historic step on a global scale, through which the international community will have the opportunity to take necessary joint measures to protect the largest sources of drinking water.
According to speaker, 92 percent of the country's water is used in agriculture. In the Republic of Tajikistan, there has been an increase in air temperature in recent years. The most stable glaciers remain in our republic. Unfortunately, in recent years, due to the increase in dust, glaciers have been melting. In 2022, there were more than 10 dust storms in the republic, which did not affect it.
A. Mahmadmuradov, Associate professor of the Department of Natural Sciences of TSUFE, presenting a report on the topic "Impact of climate change on the safety of water resources", explained this issue with deep scientific evidence and giving examples from the current state of the world.
In continuation of the scientific conference, the Head of the Department of Natural Sciences of TSUFE O. Ulugov gave a report on the topic "The impact of climate change on the safety of water resources". The speaker mentioned that Honorable Emomali Rahmon has repeatedly stated in his speeches that Tajikistan is one of the countries with large reserves of environmentally friendly electricity production, and 98 percent of electricity is produced in hydropower plants. According to this indicator, the percentage of green energy production in our country ranks sixth in the world. Due to the small volume of greenhouse gas emissions, Tajikistan is also in one of the highest places.
In total, there were presented 20 scientific reports at the conference, and various aspects of this issue were discussed from the point of view of scientists and researchers.
At the end there were questions and answers and discussion.
