History of the Department

The Department of Economic Security was established based on the Order of the Rector of the Tajik State University of Finance and Economics, “On the establishment of departments within faculty structures and the assignment of fields and specialties to them,” dated July 7, 2025. According to this order, the department was incorporated into the Faculty of Customs Activities and Economic Security and assigned the fields and specialties 1-96010103 – Economic Security and 1-25010409 – Finance and Control in the Field of Customs Activities.

Modern conditions require that ensuring national security becomes a top priority for an independent state. Today, the concept of “security” has acquired a broad meaning, encompassing various spheres, and is regarded as one of the key issues of society. In this context, it is essential to ensure a high standard of living for the population through sustainable economic growth, activate the domestic and foreign investment climate, and comprehensively protect the domestic market and the position of national producers.

The socio-political changes that have taken place in the region over the past decade necessitate the development of a new scientifically grounded concept of national economic security, taking into account regional integration processes and national interests. Therefore, the training of highly qualified specialists in the field of economic security, meeting the demands of today's labor market, has become one of the priority directions.

The Customs Authorities of the Republic of Tajikistan, within their competencies, ensure the protection of the sovereignty and economic security of the country, carry out tax and currency control, export control, and other types of regulatory oversight. They play an important role in ensuring economic, financial, environmental, tourism, and other types of security. Customs authorities contribute to the state budget, protect intellectual property rights, counteract the legalization of criminal income, financing of terrorism, international terrorism, and prevent smuggling. They also participate in developing and implementing methods for analyzing corruption risks.
