LEARNING FOREIGN LANGUAGES — A REQUIREMENT OF MODERNITY
On May 28 of the current year, at the initiative of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Tajik State University of Finance and Economics, a Republican Scientific and Theoretical Conference was held on the topic: “Learning Foreign Languages in Future Education: Strategies and Prospects.”
The conference was attended by and featured presentations from: Khavasmokh Sokhibnazarova, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Comparative Linguistics and Translation Theory at the Tajik International University of Foreign Languages named after S. Ulughzoda; Mirat Komilov, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Linguistics and Comparative Typology at the Faculty of English and Oriental Languages of the Tajik State Pedagogical University; Sirojiddin Nasruddinov, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan; Rukhshona Safarova, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The conference was opened by the Vice-Rector for Science, Firuz Kodirov, who emphasized the importance of learning foreign languages in today’s world and noted that the Government of the country has created all necessary conditions for in-depth study of foreign languages by students in secondary and higher educational institutions. He stressed that every university student, regardless of their specialty, should master at least two foreign languages — Russian and English.
— The respected Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, pays special attention to the study of foreign languages and constantly emphasizes in his speeches the necessity of learning Russian and English as languages of international communication. In fact, knowledge of foreign languages is not only an advantage but a necessity. Language competence expands professional and educational opportunities, promotes personal growth, and better understanding of different cultures. In modern conditions, every conscious person should strive to enrich their native language and study foreign languages, giving primary importance to reading books and improving their educational level, — stated Firuz Kodirov in his speech.
During the conference, participants discussed current issues of foreign language teaching and presented reports on the topics:
“Artistic and visual means as one of the key phenomena of translatability (using the example of Tajik and English languages),”
“Using graphic organizers to develop writing skills,”
“Lexical-semantic classification of proper names in Tajik and English,”
“English as a window to the world.”
It should be noted that the chosen topic of the conference was truly relevant and motivated students to once again realize the importance of learning foreign languages and strive to improve their knowledge and skills.
The conference concluded with a discussion of the presented topics and an exchange of opinions among the participants.
