DEFENDERS OF THE MOTHERLAND - THE STATE’S RELIABLE SHIELD
“The National Army is one of the fundamental pillars of national statehood and the steadfast shield of our beloved Motherland. We take pride in the fact that, within a short historical period, our National Army has endured the most serious trials, evolving into a powerful and capable force and a loyal guardian of the country’s borders and territory.”
Emomali Rahmon
The Armed Forces Day of the Republic of Tajikistan, commemorated annually on February 23, stands among the most significant and sacred dates in the history of our modern statehood. This day is not merely a professional holiday for military personnel; it is a symbol of the resilience of the Tajik people, pride in independence, and profound respect for the courage and self-sacrifice of those sons of the nation who spare no effort—and, when necessary, no life itself—for the peace and security of our homeland.
The establishment of our National Army is inextricably linked with one of the most challenging and decisive periods in the country’s history. The Armed Forces of Tajikistan emerged under exceptionally difficult circumstances, at a time when the nation was engulfed in internal confrontation and state institutions were severely weakened. In effect, the Army was built from the ground up—on the strength of unwavering resolve, deep patriotism, and the wise leadership of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon. It was precisely this determination that enabled the rapid formation of a disciplined and capable military force, one that successfully safeguarded the country’s territorial integrity and restored the long-awaited peace and stability to Tajik households.
Today, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan have developed into a modern and formidable institution equipped with contemporary military technology and staffed by highly qualified officers and specialists. Service in the ranks of the National Army constitutes a true school of courage, civic consciousness, and devotion to the Motherland for our youth. Within its structure, young servicemen not only master military skills, but also cultivate a strong sense of responsibility and a deep reverence for the land of their ancestors. Conditions of service continue to improve steadily, and the prestige and social standing of soldiers and officers in society are rising year by year.
In the complex realities of today’s world—marked by emerging security threats such as terrorism and extremism—the role of the Armed Forces becomes ever more pivotal. Our servicemen remain the nation’s reliable shield, standing vigilant day and night to protect the borders and safeguard the achievements of independence. This commemorative day provides an opportune moment to express our sincere gratitude to all defenders of the Motherland for their loyal service and valor. May peace and national unity endure in our country, and may the National Army remain a lasting symbol of strength, sovereignty, and cohesion of the nation.
